The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-D) has signed a deal with Troop Comforts Limited (TCL) to make clothing for the Indian security forces that are smart and safe. The collaboration will cover all the new fields, like using smart textiles in defense applications.

On Monday, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi signed a memorandum of understanding with Troop Comforts Limited (TCL), a government-owned company that makes clothing for the Indian security forces. The two companies will work together to make Smart Protective Clothing.
TCL is part of the Ministry of Defense and is based in Kanpur. It makes things for the military and paramilitary forces. All four factories belong to the group. The Ordnance Clothing Factory in Shahjahanpur, UP; the Ordnance Equipment Factory in Kanpur, UP; and the Ordnance Clothing Factory in Avadi, Tamil Nadu.
MoU: “Under the agreement, IIT Delhi and TCL will work together on the research and development of clothing and equipment for security personnel who serve in high-altitude areas like the Siachen Glacier, as well as the development of sensor-fitted clothing.”
All four TCL factories will give projects to IIT Delhi for research and innovation based on their needs. Collaborating on new things: “We will work together on new things like using smart textiles in defense applications, integrating AI into Troop Comfort Items, and developing a future infantry soldier as a system,” it said.
To work together on the projects, both will form a Joint Working Group (JWG).

So says Sunil Kumar Khare, the Dean of R&D at IIT Delhi: “The textile and fiber engineering department at IIT Delhi is well-known for its work on smart textiles.” It’s a great honor for us to help our security forces through this MoU with TCL.
The TCL Group, which is changing as a result of new government policies, wants to be a one-stop-shop for the needs of the military.
