A firm and IIT-Delhi team up to make ‘smart protective clothing’ for security forces

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-D) has signed a deal with Troop Comforts Limited (TCL) to make clothing for the Indian security forces that are smart and safe. The collaboration will cover all the new fields, like using smart textiles in defense applications.

The Ordnance Clothing Factory in Shahjahanpur, UP; the Ordnance Equipment Factory in Kanpur, UP; and the Ordnance Clothing Factory in Avadi, Tamil Nadu.

MoU: “Under the agreement, IIT Delhi and TCL will work together on the research and development of clothing and equipment for security personnel who serve in high-altitude areas like the Siachen Glacier, as well as the development of sensor-fitted clothing.”

All four TCL factories will give projects to IIT Delhi for research and innovation based on their needs. Collaborating on new things: “We will work together on new things like using smart textiles in defense applications, integrating AI into Troop Comfort Items, and developing a future infantry soldier as a system,” it said.

To work together on the projects, both will form a Joint Working Group (JWG).
