Four persons were arrested in Lucknow for defrauding local politicians in exchange for positions such as members of the legislative council (MLC), state ministers, and other lucrative positions in the state of Uttar Pradesh, according to police. Some of their deceptive techniques included posing as Home Minister Amit Shah and his personal aide in order to steal government funds. The Crime Branch of the Lucknow Commissionerate, as well as the Hazratganj police, apprehended Shamim Ahmad Khan, Hasnain Ali, Jane Alam, and Himanshu Singh, among others. Shahid and Vijay alias Bablu, the other two members of the group, are now on the run from authorities.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Khyati Garg stated that the gang used to target small-time politicians through WhatsApp calls. Claimantly representing senior leaders, the gang members would extort money from their victims by luring them into lucrative posts like as MLCs or by granting them MLA tickets.
Garg stated that in one of the cases, the group attempted to capture a woman from Lucknow and hold her hostage. Shahid, a gang member who is currently on the run, attracted Reeta Singh by pretending to be Amit Shah’s personal assistant and wanted Rs 1 crore in token money in exchange for granting her the position of member of the Uttar Pradesh legislative council. According to the DCP, Hasnain, who has been arrested, even spoke to Reeta while pretending to be Amit Shah in an attempt to persuade her.
During their interrogation, the gang members also acknowledged that they had obtained Rs 4 lakh from a man posing as Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (PSP) founder Shivpal Singh Yadav in order to fund their activities in the past. They had offered him a seat on the MLA committee.
The group, according to the police, had targeted other local officials. The gang members had obtained SIM cards on the basis of falsified documents, and they used to lure victims into their traps by dialing a variety of phone numbers.
