COVZN was developed by llIT-Bhagalpur to detect Covid-19, tuberculosis, and other life-threatening chest infections at a low cost and in a short period of time.. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has approved its use in hospitals and laboratories all over India.
Key Highlight:
- COVZN was developed by llIT-Bhagalpur to detect Covid-19, tuberculosis, and other life-threatening chest infections at a low cost and in a short period of time.
- The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has approved its use in hospitals and laboratories all over India.
- COVZn is capable of reading scanned chest x-ray film or plate and also HRCT/computerized tomography scans uploaded to the computer in less than one second.
COVZN’, developed by llIT-Bhagalpur for low-cost and rapid detection of Covid-19, tuberculosis, and other severe chest infections, has been approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). ICMR has approved its use in hospitals and laboratories all over the country, so that’s good to know.
After an increase in the number of Covid-19 patients and a delay in Covid testing since March 2020, researchers at IIT-Bhagalpur began work on the project.
Prof Arvind Choubey, director of llIT-Bhagalpur, was in charge of the study’s findings. On the other hand, he told this newspaper that the “COVZN software technology” is capable of reading scanned chest x-ray film or plate and also HRCT/computerized tomography scans uploaded to the computer in less than one second through the software program.
In comparison to current microbiological swab tests, the cost of diagnosing Covid-l9 infection would be less than Rs100 if this software technology were used. It will also shorten the time it takes to get test results by two to three days, if not more. In addition to tuberculosis, the COVZN can detect other difficult chest conditions.
Both Choubey and fellow assistant professor Sandip Raj claimed that the ICMR and the Union Ministry of Health conducted extensive tests before validating the innovative technology that will save patients’ precious lives, time, and money by diagnosing Covid-19 infection more quickly and easily than the current methods.
There was a high-level advisory committee led by Dr Randeep Guleria (director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi) and CSIR experts that had been formed earlier to look into the “COVZN” software and suggest methods for using it as soon as possible by the ICMR.
“In recent times, doctors and experts at Bhagalpur’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH), IGIMS (Patna), AllMS, and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital have conducted sample tests of the technology (Delhi). The outcomes were 94% to 98% positive. Their findings showed that 98-100 percent of the time, they got the right answer “gnosis,'” Choubey asserted.
.@IIITBhagalpur has developed a software that can read chest X-ray films/plates & upload them to a computer within a second to diagnose #COVID19. This will reduce cost of diagnosis to under Rs 100! Hats off to Director Prof. Arvind Choubey & his team.https://t.co/U2SWoD2Xps pic.twitter.com/BgPL52SARI
