The Indian Institute of Technology (IT) Delhi’s Centre for Automotive Research and Tribology (CART) has been conducting various inter-disciplinary research focusing on new battery packs and charging facilities and maintenance and diagnostics to push for electric vehicles.

The research on automotive health monitoring employs artificial intelligence and the internet of things, focusing on fault detection, diagnosis, and prognosis in EVs. Aside from working on noise source identification and the sound quality of automotive and industrial machinery, IIT-Delhi is also interested in developing eco-friendly acoustic materials for noise mitigation and isolation made from natural resources, bio-waste, and recycled materials.

CART’s CEO, BK Panigrahi, stated, “We take a comprehensive approach to developing EV batteries, resulting in more sustainable and user-friendly systems. The primary goal is to extend the battery’s life and monitor the aging of battery packs. To achieve the goal as mentioned above, researchers are working on a thermal management system, a digital twin for batteries, and real-time monitoring using multi-physics and machine learning-based models.”
