On Thursday, IIT Kanpur-backed direct-to-consumer wellness startup Phool. co announced that Bollywood superstar Alia Bhatt had become a shareholder. Phool.co, a circular economy firm founded by engineering graduate Ankit Agarwal in July 2017, turns floral waste into luxury incense and other wellness items that don’t include any charcoal. The startup has developed ‘Fleather,’ utilizing its floral cycling technology. Fleece is a great alternative to animal leather and was just named PETA’s finest innovation in the Vegan World.

Regarding the most recent investment, Alia Bhatt stated, “Phool incense is notable for the quality of its natural scents and the eye-catching presentation it comes in. As a humanitarian alternative to leather, I applaud the founder’s goal of generating incense and bio-leather from recycled flowers that help keep our rivers clean while also giving Indian women work. I’m happy to join the company’s investors since I’m proud that these products are made in India and are a global sensation.”

He added, “Director of IIT-K is Dr. Abhay Karandikar.” “I am delighted to see that Phool.co has gotten this money. My sincere congratulations to Ankit Agarwal, the company’s founder and CEO, and his whole staff. In addition to environmentally clean and sustainable waste flower management, ‘flower cycling technology by Phool. co’ helps hundreds of women upliftment. IIT-K is pleased to be PHOOL’s incubator partner.”
