An agreement between the Indian Institute of Technology-Patna (IIT-P) and education department will see experts from IIT-P set up state government schools with high-tech science laboratories. They’ll also offer technical assistance, see to it that the necessary equipment is available, and train the teachers.
There are rumors that the first 50 government schools to get the labs are all in Patna. Among them are Bankipore Girls’ High School, T K Ghosh Academy, Patna High School, DPCSS Miller High School, Patliputra School, R S M Higher Secondary School, and Ganesh Higher Secondary School.
IIT-P experts will help set up science labs in all 9,360 secondary and higher secondary schools, additional chief secretary (education) Sanjay Kumar told this newspaper on Wednesday. “The plan is already in development at the Directorate of Secondary Education,” says the source. Education used to give money to principals so they could set up science labs, but “many of them had no idea what was needed in a physics or chemistry lab,” according to the report. Teachers from government schools will receive training from IIT-P experts, too.
