The Foundation for Innovation & Research in Science & Technology (FIRST) of IIT Kanpur has signed an agreement with Canada’s Toronto Business Development Centre. TBDC’s Startup Visa and Soft-Landing Programmes, for example, are designed to help startups connect with investors and industry contacts as well as business advisory services. For the companies that are chosen, there will be relocation opportunities in Canada.
In addition, as a joint venture for startups from both countries, the companies will start a cross-mentorship program. Additionally, for a period of six months, FIRST and TBDC will offer selected startups the opportunity to incubate their companies.
As part of the FIRST/TBDC cross-mentorship program, Canadian mentors will work with Indian startups for three months on their go-to-market strategy, and the reverse will also be true. In addition, a monthly startup connect meet will be organized to learn and implement best practices and processes adopted by start-ups from both countries.
For the selection of these startups, TBDC will use screening and interviews. TBDC services like one-on-one mentor sessions, networking events, an investor network, and infrastructure for running programs will be available to startups after that.
