A professor at IIIT-H opens a new chapter on flexible electronics

IIIT-H professor has written a textbook on flexible electronics, and it is now available for purchase. According to Aftab Hussain, this is the first book in the world to document the field from beginning to end from beginning to end. There are 19 chapters in the book, which cover everything from the science of flexibility to the materials and properties of electronic devices.

  • The textbook is broken into five sections, each focusing on a different aspect of flexible devices.

An Indian professor at the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H) has written a textbook on flexible electronics.

As a result, Aftab Hussain, principal investigator of the PATrlOT (Processes Architecture and Technologies Research in LoT) lab at IIIT-H, discovered a void in electronics literature with a lack of books documenting flexible electronics from start to finish when he started a course on flexible electronics at IIIT-H in 2018.

However, “book chapter collections are an excellent compilation of the current state of the art in a particular area and are very valuable, but they are not a substitute for textbooks,” he said. Hussain realized that an old-fashioned textbook could follow the same structure after designing and structuring a course from scratch.

Over the last two years, he has worked tirelessly to produce a 19-chapter primer on flexible electronics. The textbook “Introduction to Flexible Electronics” is broken into five sections, each focusing on a different aspect of flexible electronic devices. A glimpse into a new field of stretchable electronics is provided in the final chapter of the book.

The professor’s textbook appears to be an easy read for senior undergraduates or graduates in electrical engineering, electronics, material sciences, chemistry, and communication engineering.

Because the other edited book chapters are incredibly technical and detailed, this style was chosen as a deliberate choice. An in-depth study of flexible electronics would be ideal for Ph.D. students. Still, as a course reference or introduction to the field, there was nothing available, so I kept it extremely simple,” said Hussain. He added that the book was designed to assist educators in developing flexible electronics courses.

‘I hope that many faculty in India and abroad use this book to structure their curriculum around it and use the exercises in it to set semester-end exam papers so that their students can refer to it as a textbook,’ he stated.
