To reaffirm its commitment to developing the country’s young minds, Oppo India launched the Genius+ initiative on Monday, which will award scholarships to excellent students pursuing engineering degrees at prestigious institutions.

To kick-start the scheme, the smartphone manufacturer has formed an agreement with IIT Delhi to provide scholarships covering tuition fees for shortlisted students.

Oppo will also expand its Master’s and PhD student programs in order to invest in the industry’s future technology leaders, the firm stated in a statement.

“India has the genuine potential to develop into an innovation hub. This program is a first step toward assisting young people worldwide in gaining access to improved educational and learning opportunities and co-creating an inventive future. We want to inspire more students and develop tomorrow’s innovators through this program,” Tasleem Arif, Vice President, Oppo India’s R&D Head, stated.

The selection of first-year applicants for the Genius+ scholarship program is based on the students’ JEE rank, and the scholarship is renewable for the second to fourth years if the selected students have a CPI (CGPA) of 8.0 or higher.

Oppo’s representative would advise and monitor selected students’ academic progress through in-person visits to the institution, the business claimed.

“These scholarships go a long way toward recognizing deserving individuals,” stated Naveen Garg, Dean Of International Programs, IIT Delhi.
