A 19-year-old IIT student has been detained for reportedly following female pupils and teachers at a prestigious Delhi institution. According to the police, Mahavir contacted the victims by using bogus caller ID applications and WhatsApp virtual numbers. He created false Instagram profiles and used their images to post distorted versions of them in their names. According to police in Kolkata (Calcutta), a 19-year-old male was arrested for reportedly stalking and harassing an underage girl at a school three years prior.

ACCORDING TO POLICE, an IIT student, 19, was detained in Bihar for stalking female students and staff at a well-known Delhi school and posting modified images of them on social media.

Originally from Patna, a student at IIT-Kharagpur, where he plans to pursue a B.tech.

According to the police, more than 50 female students and teachers at a well-known school in north Delhi were allegedly harassed by him.

They claimed that he contacted the victims via WhatsApp using false caller ID apps and virtual phone numbers. He also utilized a voice-changing program to disguise his identity.

Investigators believe he used modified images of the victims on Instagram accounts he created in their names and posted them under their real terms.

The incident came to light after the school administration filed a report about online stalking on Wednesday.

Accused tracked minor females on social media and sent WhatsApp messages to them, according to the accusation.

A series of harassing phone calls from various overseas numbers were made to the instructors’ homes.

According to the allegation, an IIT student joined WhatsApp groups for online classes and subsequently enrolled in those classes.

It went on to say that other modified images of schoolchildren have been shared on social media.

A case was filed under section 354-D (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code at the Civil Lines police station. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi, the district’s cyber cell unit was enlisted for assistance.

The police interviewed school kids, their parents, and teachers as part of the inquiry.

Authorities claim to have nabbed 33 WhatsApp virtual phone numbers, five Instagram accounts, and several phone calls made with fictitious caller ID apps by the accused.

“Our team examined the IP records from WhatsApp, Instagram, and a phony mail ID that was used to create social media profiles and found that Mahavir was the person responsible. Once located in Patna, Bihar, he was taken into custody “This is what DCP Kalsi had to say.

While looking through the cell phone records, authorities discovered that the suspect had first contacted one of the victims three years prior and had been stalking and harassing her ever since, according to the accuser’s testimony.

“Mahavir is a B. Tech student at an IIT. He contacted a student at the school and began getting her pals on Instagram and other social media platforms. Taking advantage of his extensive understanding of applications, he utilized them to harass and pursue young women, “the DCP informed us.

Other obscene materials were discovered on the suspect’s phone and laptop, according to police. The devices were seized.
