Taliban fighters have captured the country’s second and third largest cities. And tonight, thousands of u.s. Troops are on their way to help evacuate the u.s. Embassy. cbs2’s Ali Bauman is here with more on all of this. >> reporter: fresh troops are expected to arrive in Afghanistan within 48 hours. The move is a sign of waning confidence in the afghan’s ability to hold off the Taliban surge. Fighters have seized 12 provincial capitals in the last week, and some fear Kabul will attack. With the capture of its second-largest city, Taliban forces now control two-thirds of Afghanistan. The Taliban’s sweeping victories are overwhelming Afghan troops. causing the u.s. to have a significant staff drawdown. >> this is not abandonment.
