A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar and the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Sikkim (NITS) to enable student exchange, academic interaction, and research collaboration among faculty members.
Prof Sudhir K Jain, Director of IIT Gandhinagar, shared his comments, saying, “IITGN has always believed in productive relationships with other academic institutions.” It will have a significant impact on the two institutes’ missions. I am confident that our collaboration with NIT Sikkim will benefit both institutes’ faculty and students.”
“We are thrilled to have this affiliation with IITGN that would immensely benefit our students and faculty and promote their academic and research pursuits,” said Prof Mahesh Chandra Govil, Director, NIT Sikkim. I am hopeful that we will be able to form a long-term and fruitful cooperation that will serve as a model for other institutions.”
Students from NIT Sikkim are eligible to apply for a summer research internship at IIT Gandhinagar.
Every year, two meritorious students from NIT Sikkim will be selected to participate in the Summer Research Internship Program (SRIP) at IIT Gandhinagar as part of this arrangement.
IIT Gandhinagar will also pay these students a stipend if they complete the program successfully.
The credits acquired at IIT Gandhinagar throughout their semester will be transferred to NIT Sikkim.
Students from NIT Sikkim are eligible to apply to IIT Gandhinagar’s Start Early PhD program.
Not only that, but the MoU would allow up to two NITS final year BTech students to be considered for admission to IIT Gandhinagar’s Start Early PhD program.
Students that are selected will have the option to begin the non-degree program early in their seventh or eighth semester.
Exchange of professors
Furthermore, IITGN will provide two NITS faculty members with the chance to spend time at IITGN for research and academic collaboration with IITGN faculty members twice a year.
Both institutes can also decide on other ways to collaborate in order to help faculty, students, and research.
With the aim to forge a strong academic partnership, IITGN has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NIT Sikkim to facilitate student exchange, academic cooperation, and research collaboration among faculty members.
