Delhi University crisis; teachers are calling for 12 colleges to be taken over by the UGC

The tenure of 28 colleges’ Governing Councils ended this month, but no new members have been requested. The salaries of teachers in these colleges are constantly in jeopardy. Teachers urged the UGC to step in and ensure that students and teachers are treated fairly. On September 13, the governing body of the Delhi government’s 28 institutions came to an end. The identities of the members of the governorship body are yet to be finalized by the Delhi government. The destiny of 12 colleges that the Delhi government entirely sponsors is still up in the air. The UGC has been asked to take over these colleges due to salary delays and other irregularities. Furthermore, the Governing Council period in 28 colleges came to an end this month. Even though the deadline has passed, the governing body has yet to propose the members’ names.

The Delhi administration and university teachers are at odds once again. The state administration is delaying the distribution of subsidies to 12 colleges that are fully sponsored by the state. The grant, according to the teachers, is insufficient. They now want the UGC to intervene and ensure that the students and teachers are treated fairly.

Bhimrao Ambedkar College, Maharaja Agrasen College, Maharishi Valmiki College, Indira Gandhi Sports College, Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Sister Nivedita, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Science, and Keshav Mahavidyalaya in Delhi are among the colleges that have requested UGC takeover.

According to DUTA President Rajib Ray, the matter of all 12 colleges has been raised with the UGC. Teachers’ salaries in these colleges are always in a state of flux.

The Delhi government has fully supported all of these 12 colleges. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has now been asked to take over all 12 colleges. According to Ray, the Delhi University teachers’ union has formally presented this proposal to the UGC.

DUTA officials have met with UGC authorities in this regard, according to Ray. Professor Rajnish Jain, UGC Secretary, and Financial Advisor P.K. Thakur were also present at the meeting.
