THE INDIAN Institute of Technology in Ropar has been ranked second in India in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022. Another notable achievement is that the institute is ranked 14th in the world for citations (research quality).

On a global scale, the institute has been placed in the 351-400 category. It is one of 71 Indian institutes that have been named in these rankings.

IISc Bangalore, among the other Indian institutes on the list, retained its global position in the 301-350 band for the third year in a row and was ranked first in India. In the World University Rankings 2022, 71 Indian universities were included, up from 63 the previous year.

In terms of research impact, IIT Ropar has outperformed its peers, placing 14th in the world in terms of citations. In terms of research quality, IIT Ropar is ahead of all IITs, with the largest number of citations, according to a statement released by the institute. IIT Ropar began its adventure in 2008 with 500 acres of grassland on the banks of the Satluj River in Rupnagar, Punjab, and has made tremendous and swift progress toward constructing a spectacular and unique campus in this demanding yet calm environment, according to the statement.

The ranking is based on 13 performance metrics that assess how well an institution performs in four areas: teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international view. More than 1,600 universities from 99 countries and territories are included in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022.

The institute has been working on a number of projects, including innovations to combat the Covid-19 crisis, a stubble management solution that converts stubble into an acoustic board, a stubble removal machine, a device to monitor vehicle pollution in real-time, an erosion-resistant coating, detecting group level emotions, intoxicated state detection, detecting type 2 diabetes from fingernails, and a number of others.
