The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, 2021 in Mathematical Sciences, has been awarded to Professor Saket Saurabh of the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc) Chennai. The Indian Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) bestows the award.
Professor Saurabh, a pioneer in parameterized complexity, graph algorithms, and problem satisfiability, co-authored two books with Mr. Saurabh.
After receiving two European Research Council Grants, the ACM India Early Career Researcher Award in 2020, and an election as an Indian Academy of Sciences Fellow in 2020, he is now a recipient of all three honors.
For his work, the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology 2021 has been awarded to Professor Saket Saurabh of the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc) Chennai in theoretical computer science.
The award was announced on September 26, 2021, on CSIR Foundation Day, by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) India. Saket Saurabh joined IMSc as a faculty member in 2009 after earning a Ph.D. in theoretical computer science from IMSc in 2008 and working as a postdoc at the University of Bergen in Norway. Parameterized complexity (a recent approach to computationally hard problems) is one of his many research interests. On parameterized complexity, he’s co-authored two books and conducted numerous surveys. At IMSc, he has mentored 13 Ph.D. students, making a total of 14.
