After the rising dispute over the geotags concern in Twitter which showed Leh as part of China, Twitter India on Monday said that it is working towards fixing the problem. Calling it a technical issue, Twitter said that its workers are quickly working on the matter.
” We ended up being mindful of this technical issue on Sunday, and understand and respect the sensitivities around it. The teams have worked promptly to investigate and fix the concerned geotag problem,” said Twitter India spokesperson.
Significantly, Twitter India created a significant oversight on Sunday after it revealed Leh as part of the Peoples Republic of China in the timelines. The matter emerged while National Security Analyst Nitin Gokhale was making a live video on Twitter near Leh airport. Observer Research Study Foundation (ORF) chairman Kanchan Gupta saw the place in his video and raised questions.
Targeting Twitter for the error, Gupta said, “So @Twitter has decided to reconfigure geography and state Jammu & Kashmir as part of the Individuals’ Republic of #China. If this is not an offense of #India laws, what is? Citizens of India have been punished for far less. But the United States Big Tech is above the law?”
In another tweet, Gupta stated, ” No @Twitter this is not a freak happenstance.” She also tagged IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad requiring him to rapidly check out the matter.
On the other hand, Gokhale who was making the video said, “Today, I was live on Twitter in addition to Rohit Pandita to apprise people of my journey to Ladakh from Himachal Pradesh by means of a brand-new road. After we finished our broadcast, to our scary, we discovered that the location we had put of our area of the War Memorial, Hall of Popularity – a popular landmark in Leh came as Jammu and Kashmir, the People’s Republic of China. I apprised Twitter by tagging them, anticipating them to take action, but except for anger from individuals of India, nothing occurred.”
Netizens advised Ravi Shankar Prasad to rapidly take action against Twitter India.
