Energy co-operation between India and Sweden will go a long way toward realizing the aim of a fossil-free economy. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister for Power, emphasized that India seeks technological solutions for sustainable energy on Tuesday.
The 8th India-Sweden Innovation Day was held on ‘Accelerating India Sweden Green Transition,’ and he delivered the inaugural address. He further stated a new joint call on the circular economy, including health science and waste to wealth, was made by DST, DBT, and Swedish Vinnova during 2021-2022.
In April 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Stockholm, discussing India’s quest for clean energy technology solutions. According to Singh, collaboration in the energy industry was one of the topics of discussion.
The DST and Swedish Energy Agency sent out a call for industrial research and development projects in this field, and so far, 20 industry-led suggestions have come in. These are in the final stages of consideration, according to the DST official.
Science and technology and earth sciences minister of state (independent charge) suggested that chosen projects might be implemented as early as this month.”
According to Singh, a joint committee was formed after Prime Minister Modi’s visit to assess the scientific partnership.
Singh added that several important issues for science and technology collaboration were highlighted, such as smart cities, clean technologies, digitalization, including the “Internet of Things,” machine learning, and circular economy; Singh added..
According to him, they are being implemented by the DST and the Swedish Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation.
There were 22 individual initiatives and three collaborative projects that were recommended by both countries for funding, according to Minister Said during their March 5, 2021, bilateral meeting.
When it comes to the circular economy and health science and waste-to-wealth initiatives in the future, Singh says the DBT and Swedish Vinnova will make a new joint call in 2021-2022.
According to him, the Indian Council of Medical Research and the Swedish FORTE have also decided to launch a fresh call in 2021-2022 on broad subjects like public health, prevention, health promotion, and care for the aged.
DBT is also already working with Swedish partners on incubator connect, digital health care, and global bio India programs, boosting collaborations in the biotechnology industry..
Ibrahim Baylan, the Swedish Minister for Business, Industry, and Innovation, stated that cooperation between India and Sweden remained despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since 2018, he added, the number of scientific cooperation has increased, and he urged the development of a sustainable society by finding new solutions and increasing resilience. To become a fossil-fuel-free economy, Sweden is working hard, according to Baylan, to develop new climate-neutral technology items.
