New Delhi: Earlier this week, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi announced the development of a portal that will allow anyone in the country to reserve a research instrument from the CRF.
Thanks to this arrangement, IIT Delhi’s Central Research Facilities in New Delhi and Sonipat can be accessed by researchers from around the country.
IIT Delhi has promised or spent Rs 500 crore on building various high-tech facilities at the CRF. While announcing the platform on Tuesday, IIT Delhi Director V Ramgopal Rao mentioned the IoE grant as one of the primary funding sources, a special MoE grant, and an IIT Delhi grant through industrial research and development. He also mentioned the DST’s Sophisticated Analytical and Technical Help Institutes (SATHI) project and a HEFA loan.
“The CRF currently has about 50 different facilities that are available to its customers, both owned and adopted. In the next two years, this number is anticipated to grow by twofold….” Prof. Rao made the addition.
Central Research Facility at IIT Delhi was established in 2011 as part of an endeavor to strengthen IIT Delhi’s research ecosystem.
As of 2017, the CRF facilities have undergone considerable upgrades with the addition of several cutting-edge, high-end research facilities. So far, these have met the requirements of researchers from several Institute departments and disciplines,” the institute stated.
There was a new CRF building built-in 2017 in the Sonipat extension campus of IIT Delhi. Sonipat is also getting a much larger structure, which the institute expects to be finished in March 2022.
According to Prof Pankaj Srivastava, Head, Central Research Facility, IIT Delhi, “some of the most modern equipment like Physical Property Measurement System, X-Ray Photoemission Spectrometer, High-Resolution Transmission Electron Microscope, Molecular Beam Epitaxy and Universal Testing Machine are now housed in Sonipat and many more have been planned for the upcoming second building”.
