Key Highlights
- Experts from several IITs were brought in to help design the platform.
- First, the machine translation will be conducted, and then specialists in the field will finish the task.

- The concept is part of DST’s five-year strategic initiative program.
To create an Indian version of Wikipedia, IIT experts have been engaged by the Centre to collaborate on the project. To facilitate the establishment of an all-inclusive, in-depth English-language Hindi-language Wikipedia, the Indian government has tasked the Department of Science and Technology (DoST) with carrying out a two-step procedure.
The project is expected to start with the provision of science and technology information, with the future expansion into other sectors of knowledge.
“First, machine translation is used, and then a team of experts in the subject looks over the results to confirm that the information is correct and authentic before it is presented for the public to read. Since the specialists have intervened in the machine tools, the results will be stored so they can be used again in the future “A DST official stated, “
The Centre for Cyber-Physical Systems has brought together teams of experts from IIT Patna, IIT Kanpur, and IIIT Hyderabad to develop machine translation technologies. Once the specialists have combed through the information, a specialized team will take over to work on the vetting.
“In the beginning, content in Hindi and regional languages would pertain to science and technology. The knowledge available on Indian themes is, as of now, limited, and this will help to connect those who don’t understand English with others “the head of state concluded.
The concept is part of DST’s five-year strategic initiative program, which covers a number of initiatives that the organization wants to implement. On the list are a set of data set preparations, the most prominent of which is Generation of High-Resolution National Topographic Data Base, which will be prepared for the first time with 10 cm resolution images created by drone technology, making India join a select club of countries with such large-scale data creation capabilities.
