IIT Madras signs MoU with Tata Power for research, development, and technology projects

Tata Power and IIT Madras have agreed to work on research and development, consulting, policy advocacy, advice, training, and the commercialization of technology and solutions. Additionally, the arrangement involves campus recruitment chances for IIT M postgraduate students. The MoU calls for Tata Power to recruit IIT graduates for full-time positions or as interns.

Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company, announced the launch of a new initiative called “Tech Madras” to create social and economic impact in the region. This initiative has been designed for Tata Power employees and IIT Madras graduates.

According to a business press release, Tata Power and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras have entered into an agreement to work on research and development, consulting, policy advocacy, advisory, training, and commercialization of technology and solutions.

Tata Power and IIT Madras will collaborate on advanced research in areas of future technology as part of the MoU. According to a corporate news release, the agreement also offers campus recruitment chances for postgraduate students at IIT Madras.

“IIT Madras is thrilled to cooperate with Tata Power to do research on themes of mutual interest and national significance and to create opportunities for staff to acquire advanced expertise in new fields,” stated Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director, IIT Madras.

“Together, we will work in areas of advanced technology, innovation, and knowledge for sustainable change,” raveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power, stated. We’re excited to collaborate with some of the country’s most gifted and brilliant thinkers.”

Tata Power’s Collaboration, Innovation, and Research and Development division has cooperated with over 100 national and international technological companies and institutions to produce low-cost, scalable renewable energy solutions.

Collaborations in research

Several objectives agreed upon by Tata Power and IIT M as part of the collaboration include collaborative research projects, including research-based and consulting projects supported by the IIT Madras Center for Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (IC&SR).

The MoU provides for Tata Power’s recruitment of IIT Madras graduates on a full-time basis or as interns. The Placement Office of IIT Madras will help this effort.

Tata Power and IIT Madras may establish procedures governing each of them with respect to research interaction visits and/or sabbaticals, as applicable, and/or through virtual means, and/or invite each other to respective research laboratories for in-depth discussions. Additionally, Tata Power employees and IIT teachers may serve on each other’s committees and boards of directors.

Employees of Tata Power can enroll in a variety of degree programs such as MTech, MS, and PhD under this initiative after getting admission through the proper channels. Additionally, IIT-M and Tata Power staff can conduct short-term training programs jointly or individually.

Tata Power and IIT Madras can also collaborate on CSR initiatives; the firm can give grants to support faculty research or student scholarships and fellowships.

“Tata Power and IIT Madras may also explore opportunities to collaborate with start-up enterprises housed in the IIT-M Incubation Cell,” the release stated.
