Mohit Aron, alumni of the Indian Institute of Delhi, donated $1 million to the school’s Computer Science and Engineering department. According to the institute, the Mohit Aron Endowment will help IIT Delhi’s Computer Science and Engineering Department become a world-class computer science department.

They plan to use it for faculty research and undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students to go to various conferences and workshops and participate in competitive events in India and overseas.

Aron was a member of the IIT Delhi Computer Science and Engineering Department’s 1995 graduating class when he earned his BTech. In 2018, Rice University honored Aron with the “Outstanding Engineering Alumni Award,” recognizing his achievements after earning his Ph.D. in 2000. In 2019, he was also honored with the IIT Delhi Distinguished Alumni Award.

“My education from the Department of Computer Science at IIT Delhi has been a basic pillar of my career. I am what I am now in large part because of that,” remarked Mohit Aron when asked about his contribution. This present is my way of saying thanks to the department for everything they’ve done for me.”

According to Prem Kalra, IIT Delhi’s department head of computer science and engineering, “the CSE department has acquired several new faculty members in the recent two years.” Thanks to Mohit’s kind donation, both of these things will help us come closer to our objective of being in the top 50 CS departments worldwide by 2025 and in the top 30 in 2030.

IIT Delhi Director V. Ramgopal Rao praised Mohit Aron for his contribution, saying, “Alumni contributions, such as those of Mohit, are a vital resource to increase the Institute’s competitiveness in attracting students and faculty. To support research and training in CS, AI, data science, and related fields, IIT Delhi recently launched the School of Artificial Intelligence (ScAI).
