Chris Pratt is pulled into the future to fight aliens in the Tomorrow War trailer
Here is the Tomorrow War trailer – from the past. The Chris Pratt-led sci-fi action film has debuted a two-and-a-half-minute trailer on Amazon Prime Video. An animated film that involves soldiers from the past traveling into the future to aid (human) soldiers from the losing side cannot defend themselves. The Tomorrow War is directed by The Lego Batman Movie director Chris McKay, which was reportedly sold to Amazon for $200 million (roughly Rs. 1,486 crores). Beginning July 2, you can watch it on Prime Video.
Watching the 2022 FIFA World Cup final on television with his family – Betty Gilpin plays his partner Emmy – Dan (Pratt) is disturbed, only to learn that soldiers are entering the stadium from an underground port. One of them announces: “We’re fighting a war 30 years in the future. Our enemy is not human. We need you to fight.” Dan, a former Marine who now teaches, is drafted into the army. Emmy is assured that he will return and that she would be taken care of if anything were to happen to him. “If something happens to you? 70 percent of draftees do not return,” Emmy says.
With a device allowing them to travel through time, the group — including Sam Richardson as the amateur — finds themselves in the year 2028, when a woman tells them that all humans will be “wiped from the face of the Earth.” Among the soldiers, there’s Vicki (Yvonne Strahovski), who echoes those exact words in a different shot: “This is the end. The human species will disappear from the face of the Earth. We are literally living on borrowed time.” Deep into the trailer, Dan also reveals that there’s a way to stop this war from ever happening.
While The Tomorrow War is about fighting an alien race, the trailer shows us surprisingly little of them. The film lacks action or gunfire, but there is a feeling of dourness throughout, most notably through Pratt’s dialogue. Some attempts at humor have been made, but for me, none of them had any effect. The film’s original distributor and producer, Paramount Pictures, was happy to sell The Tomorrow War to Prime Video for $200 million, the most expensive movie Amazon has ever acquired. It’s hoped that the film is more entertaining than the trailer.
