Researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H) and Wisig Networks developed the world’s first 5G data call. The call was made utilizing a MIMO-capable base station operating in the 3.3-3.5 GHz frequency band with a 100MHz bandwidth.

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H) and Wisig Networks made a first-ever 5G data call using an Indian-made technology called open radio access network (ORAN). This is a technology that is compatible with 5G.

Indians have brought in 20 3G and 4G technologies to this point. Even though some of these wireless devices are being made in the country, the technology, intellectual property (patents), and design know-how were not. Researchers at the IIT-H made these 5G technologies so that India will be at the forefront of the 5G and future technologies. The call was made with a base station with MIMO capabilities and can use 100MHz of bandwidth in the 3.3-3.5 GHz frequency range.

Prof. Kiran, the dean of research and development, said that with these abilities, India could be self-sufficient in designing and making wireless broadband equipment and play an increasingly important role in the development of new technologies, products, and services in the coming years. Prof. BS Murty, the director of IIT-H, said that IIT-H and WiSig have made more than 100 5G patents, and 15 of them are important to the 3GPG standard.
