University vice-chancellors have been asked to develop a plan and submit it to the UGC’s University Activity Monitoring Portal by November 2021 by the Ministry of Education.

Student learning in their native language while developing critical thinking and understanding the knowledge systems and other essential aspects is the goal behind this new approach.

Study materials will be translated into the local language in states where Hindi is not widely spoken or used. As the deadline approaches, universities have already begun laying out a layout for their detailed plans.

The central government’s new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 also stresses the importance of expanding India’s translation and interpretation efforts to provide quality learning materials in various Indian languages.

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava (AKAM) celebrations have prompted UGC to direct the translation. Since the beginning of the year, UGC has been working on the celebration. It recently asked its affiliate colleges and universities to hold seminars on lesser-known freedom fighters and historical events. There were also lists of these freedom fighters, along with the names of their home states.

Independence Day celebrations will begin on March 15, 2022, and run through August 15, 2023, to mark the 75th anniversary of India’s independence from British colonial rule.
