The excellent efforts of eight scholars and twelve institutions have been recognized with awards.

The global leader in trusted information and insights, Clarivate Plc, announced today that the ninth India Research Excellence – Citation Awards would be held in New Delhi. This year, honors were given to eight researchers and twelve institutions for their excellent and pioneering contributions to science. This year’s awards include new categories for Women in Research and researchers who have excelled in work relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals.

Since 2004, Clarivate has honored India’s most eminent scientists and academic institutions. A study performance benchmarking and analytics tool called InCitesTM and statistics from the Web of ScienceTM citation index were used to determine the winners. In addition to a set of bibliometric indicators and a qualitative examination of the research output, highly cited research articles that signal high-impact research was necessary for the analysis.

The research was based on the production of journals from 2015 to 2020. The research contributions made after 1980 were taken into account for the lifetime achievement award.

Speaking honors were given to Eminent Scientist and Former Director-General of the Council for Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) Dr. R A Mashelkar and Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Prof Anil D Sahasrabudhe during the awards ceremony this year.

According to Mukhtar Ahmed, President of Clarivate’s Science Group, “We are happy to recognize and celebrate India’s most influential researchers and institutions.” Research is the primary force behind new ideas and product development. As a company, we are dedicated to helping India accelerate innovation by providing reliable information that can guide strategic planning. We discover opportunities to address regional and global issues by finding relevant research. Because of this, India has enormous growth and development prospects as published research becomes a compelling competitive advantage with economic and societal implications.

To provide sustainable solutions for the country, CSIR is committed to further research that promotes environmental, social, and economic sustainability”. Dr. Shekhar C. Mande, Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, said that this recognition from Clarivate for research excellence in the Sustainable Development Goals highlights the essential contributions made by CSIR, in areas such as clean air, energy, water, and other critical areas, with an aspiration to make India self-reliant in every direction.

‘This award from Clarivate is a terrific acknowledgment for my team at SRIHER, our numerous collaborators both inside and outside India, and all champions of public health,’ he said. Using this award will allow us to elevate the visibility of all researchers who work hard to communicate actionable data from community-based studies through high-impact publications,” stated Dr. Kalpana Balakrishnan, recipient of the Women in Research Award.
