IISc Bangalore has signed an agreement with Ajit Isaac, the founder and CEO of Quess Corp, and his wife, Sarah Isaac. They will work together to build a center for public health in Bangalore. The Isaac Center for Public Health, which will be called the Isaac Center for Public Health and be part of the new IISc Medical School, will cost Rs105 million. The center is supposed to be up and running by 2024, and it’s meant to encourage people who want to work in clinical research. They want to develop new treatments and ways to improve health care.
The center will be in the medical school’s academic and research block. It will be on one floor and cover 27,000 square feet. A postgraduate public health and research program is expected to be set up soon. Dual degree programs like a master of public health and a doctorate (MPH-PhD) are expected to be set up, which would take five to six years to finish. Besides that, the center will also have high-end biomedical research computing resources to store the data and test big data analysis methods better for public health.
Rangarajan, the director of IISc, said that India needs to have a center for clinical and academic research in public health to make faster and more important progress toward the goal of quality health care for everyone. He said this: “The proposed center will connect all of the departments of the IISc Medical School, as well as other science and engineering departments at IISc, in terms of public health research,” he said. It will also work with computer science and data science departments at the Indian Institute of Science to make the center a leader in health data science and analytics, like the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Isaac said that the humanitarian crisis caused by the pandemic would take a long time to fix and has shown that public health systems need to be better. “We need to deal with this systematically and consistently,” he said. “A strong country isn’t just built on education and jobs. It also has good, healthy public health.” And the government can’t be the only one who has to make sure the future is healthy.
