Bamboo and Cane Development Institute (BCDI) of Tripura claims to have manufactured the country’s first-ever bamboo-made cricket bat following the conventional standards required for manufacturing cricket bats. Players’ feedback is being solicited to see if these bats may be improved upon. In Tripura’s Bamboo and Cane Development Institute, the product was designed utilizing locally accessible materials. For the development of the bats, the hard Boom (local name) bamboo has been utilized. “Kanakaich (a local kind of bamboo)” has also been used to build bamboo wickets, which are almost completely solid.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb applauded the team for their innovative design of bats and wickets shown to him at an event. To create this product, we made use of our exclusive bamboo blue board technology. First, a Cambridge university paper released a lengthy piece on the usage of bamboo as a substitute for traditional bat-making methods four to five months ago. According to BCDI-NECTAR chairman Dr Abhinab Kant, the project was later taken over by NECTAR, with the BCDI taking on the remaining work. “

When we came up with the bamb0o board technology, we drew inspiration from bats and made the boards look like them. In addition, we’ve produced bamboo wickets made from Kanakkaich bamboo, which is practically impenetrable. Following international standards of bamboo stumps, the surface was sanded, and a cylindrical shape was given to the bamboo.

He added that the bamboo bats would be submitted to a few experts for approval. Then the BCDI would share the technology with some local businesses or marketing agencies for commercial use and mass manufacture.
