For her idea of the “Solar Ironing Cart,” the 15-year-old girl from the Tamil Nadu was awarded the Earth Day Network Rising Star 2021 (USA) award.

For her speech at the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Miss Vinisha Umashankar, an 11th grader from the Tiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu, was honored by the National Innovation Foundation (NIF) – India, an autonomous body of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

“I am not here to speak about the future, I am the future,” she said, urging the world to move toward renewable energy and accelerating the journey that began in 2019.

It has been developed in 2019 by India’s National Innovation Foundation (NIF) – Vinisha’s mobile ironing cart, which uses solar panels to power the steam iron box.

Among the many advantages of the solar ironing cart is the fact that it eliminates the need for coal in the process of ironing. End-users can move around and offer services at the doorstep in order to increase their daily earnings. GSM PCO, USB charging points, and mobile recharging can also be added to the ironing cart for additional revenue. Solar-powered ironing carts are an ingenious alternative to the millions of charcoal-burning ironing carts in use around the world and can benefit the workers and their families. Batteries, electricity, or a diesel-powered generator can also be used to power the device in the absence of sunlight.

Vinisha’s efforts have positioned India as a leader in climate change research and innovation. Her speech, which was attended by world leaders including the President of the United States, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, was widely applauded.
